Hey, high achiever... is this true for you, too? 👉

Hey Reader,

Every month, we send a thorough monthly check-in email to each of our clients.

We start with a recap of all of the wins we've collectively created throughout the month, as well as the progress we’ve made.

While part of the reason we do this is because we want you to be happy with us (we’re suck ups, what can we say?!), there's a more important reason:

High-achievers are historically very bad at noticing and celebrating their successes—especially all of the small wins along the way to the bigger milestones they’re aiming for.

Can you relate?

(Check out the book The Gap and the Gain or hit reply and ask us for the quick summary if you want to learn more about this!)

So consider this our way of forcing you to confront your successes 😆

Showing you a summary of our work is helpful for us, too, because it keeps our eyes on the bigger picture, not just day-to-day tasks.

Next, we ask a series of questions that encourage you to zoom out, reflect, celebrate, and give us feedback.

(If you remember back when our second email landed in your inbox, we shared four skills for managing an author business, the fourth being evaluation: taking the time to reflect on a release, project, or launch—from the small, slightly inconvenient bumps to any major issues—to ensure the next round of execution is even smoother and more effective.)

The monthly check-in is key in encouraging you to take the time for evaluation.

Since we’re open books, here are the questions we put in front of our clients at the close of each month:

Looking back:

  • What are your wins from the past month—both big and small?
  • What was most helpful in our work this past month?
  • What, if anything, would you have changed in our work last month?
  • What was your revenue this past month (feel free to give a range or a specific number)?
  • On a scale of 1-10, how are you feeling about your revenue, this past month and overall (10 being the best)?

Looking forward:

  • What is one thing you'd like us to challenge you on over the next month?
  • What is one thing you'd like us to tackle together this month? (It could be something we've already discussed or not!)
  • What other updates should we know on your end, personally or professionally?
  • Is there anything else you wish we'd asked you here?

Some of our clients answer these check-ins very thoroughly, which we love. But even if you don't, the questions will weasel their way into your subconscious, make evaluation a regular thing you do without even trying too hard, and positively impact our work together 😅

But for now, we have just one question for you to answer: Would it be helpful to have a team who is with you in the trenches, both reflecting on successes and pushing for your big wins?

Hit reply and tell us. Truly, we want to know what that brings up for you.

And, if you are a resounding YES? Suffice it to say, we'd love to be that team for you!

If you haven’t yet booked one of our complimentary team audits, it’s the best next step to take! Click here to book a time to get on a 60-minute minute call with us, where we’ll assess your current team and give you recommendations on the skill gaps you’ll want to solve for, stat.

(And if you’re interested, we’ll let you know how we can be that team for you.)

To asking all the right questions -

Sara + Cristina

Hey Reader, Welcome to our new Ask a Business Manager series. We're taking your questions and responding to them through the lens of our work as a full-service business management agency. Today’s question was posted in the Millionaire Author Mastermind Facebook group, and used by us with permission from the original poster. The question: Every time I hit a new goal in my life or business, I’m like, “Yes. This is the one that will FEEL like success.” Yet, I’ve never felt that way. Ever. I...

Hey Reader, “Is there any risk to hiring a business manager from outside of the reader world?” That’s a real question we got when one of our earliest clients was in the process of hiring us. Our reply: It’s not only not a risk—it’s a major benefit. (This was several years ago, so now we’ve been around the block even more 😅) Here’s our rationale: We are results-oriented in a way that we know you are, too—but that we don’t often see elsewhere in the author world. A quick story to illustrate...
