Who's pushing you to think bigger?

Hey Reader,

We’ve talked about assessing how skilled you and your team are at the four non-negotiable skills of ideation, planning, execution, and evaluation.

In our last email, we talked about the difference between a business manager and a PA, and why it matters.

Today, we want to highlight something else important:

Your business management team shouldn’t be operating within the limits of your mindset.

Whether you know it or not, you have rules and guidelines about what’s possible in your author business, or “how’s it done.”

We’ve seen it time and again. Here are just two stories:

One of the first things we do when we work with a new client is get a full understanding of your comp authors, so we know who to study and who we can collaborate with.

When we started with one of our current clients, we specifically asked about reaching out to one big name in her genre.

She laughed and said: “Pfftttt…Good luck!!” (Literally, that’s a quote.)

She meant it dismissively…but we saw it as a challenge.

A year later, we locked in that comp author for a group giveaway to celebrate our client’s release.

Here’s what the client said when we told her:

“OH MY GOD. That is freaking amazing. I am legit blown away. That's not even good news... that is absolutely epic. Thank you for reaching for the stars. I wouldn't even have tried, which shows that you guys know what you're doing. But so do I, because I hired you!"

(We will never get over how freaking delighted she sounded when she sent this in a voice note 🥹)

We had another client who felt like she was “washed up” (her words, not ours!) in her genre. She told us that no one would want to partner with her until she re-established herself.

But we knew we had to flip the premise: Re-establishing herself would come from collaborating with top names in her genre.

Within a few months of working together, we had locked in collaborations with almost every single one of her target comp authors—and her next release went on to be her first in ages to hit the Top 100 in the US and UK.

So when you tell us “That’s not how it’s done” or “It can’t be done”... expect us to question you.

We’re rule breakers. We’re not here to do it how it’s always been done. We’re here to shake things up… with intention.

We’re always asking “Can it be done better?” And when you tell us something can’t be done? You just set our new goal.

So let us ask you: Do you have anyone in your business who is pushing you to think bigger? If not, we’d love to be those people for you.

Today’s question was posted in the Millionaire Author Mastermind Facebook group, and used by us with permission from the original poster. The question: Every time I hit a new goal in my life or business, I’m like, “Yes. This is the one that will FEEL like success.” Yet, I’ve never felt that way. Ever. I...

Hey Reader, “Is there any risk to hiring a business manager from outside of the reader world?” That’s a real question we got when one of our earliest clients was in the process of hiring us. Our reply: It’s not only not a risk—it’s a major benefit. (This was several years ago, so now we’ve been around the block even more 😅) Here’s our rationale: We are results-oriented in a way that we know you are, too—but that we don’t often see elsewhere in the author world. A quick story to illustrate...
